BIRDIE JUICE: OUR FAVOURITE COCKTAILS FOR THE GOLF COURSE

March 01, 2024

Talk to just about any golfer, and they’ll confirm that a good drink can save a round.

Granted, it may not help you play any better (though some golfers report performance-enhancing benefits). But it can take a bit of the edge off and remind you that—no matter how frustrating it can be—golf is about enjoying the day with friends, not what you log on the scorecard.

While many golfers remain committed to a steady diet of light beers, we’re fans of a refreshing cocktail on the course. As it turns out, our flasks make the perfect vessel for your favourite golf course cocktails. They’re insulated, so your drink stays cold, even on the hottest days. And the integrated tumblers allow you to pour, sip, and even share your drinks with your foursome.

Whether you want to carry our sleek Torch Flask for birdie shots, or our bigger Firelight Flask for a full cocktail you can sip share for a full round, we have the drink vessel that will help you elevate your game (in one way or another 😉). If you really a special on-course flask, you have to check out our laser-engraved custom flask program. We even have golf-specific custom templates that will help you design you one-of-a-kind flask.

But what makes a great golf course cocktail? Here are a few of our favourites, from classic sippers to true birdie shots that are perfect for a new High Camp Flask.

The Classic Golf Course Cocktails

The John Daly and the Transfusion are popular cocktails often enjoyed on the golf course due to their refreshing taste, ease of preparation, and associations with the sport. While the John Daly is arguably the most classic golf course cocktail, the Transfusion has been growing in popularity over the last few years. And while it was new to us last golf season, it apparently has deep golfing roots as former president Dwight D. Eisenhower drank it at Eldorado Country Club.

Pre-mix these cocktails at home to fill your Firelight 750 or Firelight 375 which will fit right in your golf bag and in the cup holder of most golf carts. Our preference is the 750 so you can share with your friend sharing your cart.

The John Daly - How To Make This Classic Golf Course Cocktail

Recipe sized to a High Camp Firelight Flask 750. Cut in half for Firelight Flask 375.

  1. 12 Ounces Iced Tea
  2. 6 Ounces Lemonade
  3. 4 Ounces Vodka
  4. Ice

This is the ultimate classic for the course, so we’d be remiss if we didn’t include it. Since you’re mixing it at home, we suggest you try different teas and lemonades to find the best combo. Put all liquid ingredients into your High Camp Flask or Highball Cocktail Shaker. Add small ice cubes till full. Give the flask a quick shake to mix.

This recipe is for a lower-strength, refreshing version of the drink designed to keep you hydrated. Feel free to adjust proportions for desired strength and flavour. Everyone has their own version of the John Daly. This is a quick and easy recipe that you can prepare at the house then stuff in your golf bag.

The Transfusion - How To Make This Classic Golf Course Cocktail

Recipe sized to a High Camp Firelight Flask 750. Cut in half for Firelight Flask 375.

  1. 12 ounces Ginger Ale
  2. 6 ounces Grape Juice
  3. 4 ounces Vodka
  4. Ice

To the untrained eye, this recipe doesn’t seem like much. But this might be our new favourite on-course cocktail, and if you make it at home, you get full control over your ingredients. Pick a good ginger beer, a nice organic grape juice, and decent vodka, and we think you’ll be surprised. Or hell, make it with purple Gatorade, whatever your pallet likes. We’ve seen this recipe jazzed up with grape juice ice cubes, homemade ginger syrup, and more. It's definitely one you can explore.

Mixing directions are as follows. Combine all liquid ingredients in your Firelight Flask 750, add some ice cubes to keep it cold. Since this recipe includes a carbonated mixer (ginger ale or ginger beer), we recommend that you stir lightly, rather than shake, to mix.

Birdie Shots - Our Favourite Shooters For The Golf Course

Birdies are sweet, and for most golfers, they don’t happen all that often. It’s tradition amongst our golf circles to cheers some kind of shooter when anyone in the group cards a score below par on a hole. Why limit yourself to airline bottle shooters of flavored whiskey or vodka for your birdie shots?

We love the Firelight Flask 375 and Torch Flask for shooters. They are the perfect size (depending on your chosen shooter). The Firelight Flask 375 can hold enough for your whole fore-some. The Torch Flask is perfect for you and a cart mate.  Fill the Flask at home and pack a few Torch Shot Glasses and you have the perfect Birdie Shots setup.
